In the minds of many people, a person who lives a minimalist life is someone who really understands what is necessary for them, not what people want from the perspective of people around them. Understanding clearly what you need, getting rid of all unnecessary things, that is a person who lives a minimalist life.
” Everyone is born a minimalist”
Tyler Durden in the movie The Hunger Games said: “In the end, we become slaves to the things we own.” This is true for me when I spend a lot of money on clothes and shoes, and the items I buy have never been priced higher. However, accidentally reading the book “Japanese Minimalist Lifestyle” by author Sasaki Fumio was a turning point in my thinking and lifestyle. Practicing for 3 months, I realized “Reducing the overload of furniture in the house is one time to help think about happiness”. Of course, this process is not easy and at first it was extremely inconvenient, but when I applied it rigorously, I achieved worthy results.
Learn more about the minimalist lifestyle and be surprised at the nature of the Japanese people. Since birth, they have been minimalists. Each person only has two or three sets of clothes, but they are very neat and clean. In the past, Japanese people did not keep even ten sets of clothes. When moving, always walk. Housing is simple, comfortable, and not a permanent residence. Japanese people always build new and redo houses. Isn’t that style, that look a minimalist lifestyle? This lifestyle has also influenced traditional Japanese culture, the minimalist culture.
Inside the room there are no extra objects, and the entrance only has a small, narrow door. If you like to sit back in a chair like celebrities, don’t even try to enter the tea room. In addition, even if a fighter wants to enter the tea room, he must leave his sword outside. When entering a tea room, there is no distinction between rich or poor, common people or famous people, it is just a meeting between people, enjoying a cup of tea together.
Gradually, I realized:
– No one is born with any assets or belongings in hand. So anyone who is born is a minimalist.
– Every time you own more things than necessary, you take away your freedom.
– Our self-worth is not measured by the things we own. These items only give us a temporary feeling of happiness.
– Carrying more items than necessary will take up all your time and energy.
When you realize that, you have started to become a minimalist.
Since entering a minimalist lifestyle, reducing unnecessary items, I always feel happy and new every day. For example, a trip. Almost everyone packed their things close to departure time. But even if you check the list of things to bring, you still feel like something is missing. But it’s time to depart, you have to lock the door and drag your suitcase away. It is at this moment that you feel comfortable. That’s right, if I had this suitcase, I could live for quite a long time. Maybe I forgot a few things at home, but it’s okay, the most necessary things are already here.
After traveling, you go to a motel or hotel, sleep on a tatami mat and enjoy comfort. The room is very clean, neat and has little furniture. There are no extra things in this room like at home. Therefore, the motel is always a pleasant place during trips. You leave your things in the room and take a walk nearby or leisurely go anywhere. You have time to enjoy the scenery, the people, life and there is nothing to get done.
That’s the feeling, perhaps anyone has experienced the feeling that a minimalist lifestyle brings. And of course, maybe you’ve also felt the opposite feeling, which is at the end of the trip, you get on the plane to go home. The items you packed neatly before leaving are now lying around in your suitcase. Souvenirs are stuffed into handbags. Entrance tickets to the tourist area, purchase receipts… stuffed them all into my pocket. When it’s time to check your plane ticket, you’re frantically searching, “Oh, where did I put it?” At that time, you will receive unpleasant looks from behind.
This is how you feel when you are bothered by too many things, because when something is needed, you can’t have your hands free to do anything. We always spend time and effort to own an item, or to preserve and manage the items we already have. And we spend so much that items that were just everyday items eventually become our bosses.
What is a person who lives a minimalist life?
Everyone has different reasons for becoming a minimalist. Some people find their lives turned upside down because of things, others feel unhappy even though they are rich and possess many things. Some people downsize their belongings after moving many times, or sometimes they want to escape the gloom of life. Or there are people who inherently don’t like many things, and there are even people who have changed their way of life after experiencing an earthquake.
So what kind of person is a minimalist? To what extent should you reduce your belongings to live a minimalist life? However, don’t just because you see others living minimalist lives, you also learn and force yourself when you’re not really ready. Because, people who live minimalist lives are:
– People who really understand what is necessary for them.
– People who know how to reduce their belongings to the things that are truly important.
The reality is that there are no standards for minimalists. That means if you own a hundred items or just one TV, you won’t be able to live a minimalist life, or if you can put all your clothes in one closet, it means you’re a minimalist. , it’s not like that… All of those things are not the criteria to judge whether a person is living a minimalist life or not.
For each different person, there are different important and necessary things. Therefore, reducing furniture is also different
Throwing away stuff is not the “goal” of a minimalist lifestyle, but it is just a means to help us realize what is truly important in our lives. That’s just the opening chapter of a story, and the rest of the book is what I’ve realized for myself. To be able to focus on the important things, eliminate the unimportant things. This is a problem in all areas of life today.
